OUR STANCE ON DEACONS

In the New Testament, the Greek word "diakoneo" is usually translated as "serve" and usually refers to an attendant, a waiter, or one who ministers to another.  It is from this word we get the English word "deacon."  We first see the word "deacon" used this way in the book of Acts (Acts 6:4).  The biblical role of deacons is to take care of the physical and logistical needs of the church.

The office of Deacon is also a spiritual office, and Deacons are essential to the life and health of a Gospel-centred church.  Like the seven deacons appointed in Acts 6, a deacon at Grace Church must be a person of good repute, full of the Spirit and of wisdom.
